Predictive Maintenance

Predictive Maintenance, or PdM, predicts the remaining service life of a product. The status of a product is continuously monitored and maintenance carried out before any problems arise. The aim is to reduce the likelihood of failures. In German, predictive maintenance is known as “prädiktive Instandhaltung”.

WHAT IS IT?

Predictive Maintenance is a maintenance procedure that analyses process and machine data. Analysing the data allows predictions of future problems to be made. 

 

WHAT DOES IT DO?

The use of predictions helps prevent the unexpected failure of systems. Potential defects are recognised and remedied before they cause the system to fail. Necessary maintenance tasks can be assigned to scheduled maintenance windows.

 

WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS?

Those questioned in a survey carried out by the consultancy company BearingPoint saw the biggest benefit in an increase in machine and system availability. 80% judged the benefits to be good or very good. Other expectations are a reduction in maintenance/service costs and greater customer loyalty as a result of the improvement in service.1
