Digital Thread

WHAT IT IS?

The digital thread is the basis for the digital life cycle of the digital twin. Only by linking individual data objects in terms of logic and content to a ‘common thread’ can we create a virtual representation of the real product. 

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Linking all data allows us to verify the data against one another. For example, to analyse whether a function, component or a products fulfils the defined requirements, whether it meets the legal provisions and whether it responds as required in all situations.

WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS?

Components and products must fulfil a range of requirements from a number of different perspectives. For example, something that has a positive effect on the performance of a product can be detrimental to its safety. The digital thread helps to identify these requirements, weigh them up against each other and harmonise them as part of the bigger picture. Documentation and service instructions are also part of the digital thread and can be linked to the product and its functions.
